DISCRIMINATION

Systemic Discrimination

Laws that discriminate against non-believers. In Canada, this usually takes the form of favouring religion, particularly Christianity.

The National Anthems Act of 1980 (O Canada) is theistic and thus favours Christianity.

Section 319 3b of the Criminal Code of Canada allows religious apologists to utter hate speech and publish hate literature with impunity as long as they cite religious texts as their evidence.

These discriminatory acts are SCS’ primary target.

Systematic Discrimination

Government entities, and corporations that favour religion even though the Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees us the right to freedom from religion. This happens at the municipal and provincial level because these governments think they can get away with it.

SCS needs your input to spot these transgressions.

Social Discrimination

Discrimination because of personal bias against others who are different from the perpetrator. This is the hardest discrimination to combat and requires all Secular Humanists to speak out against it at every opportunity.
